    MotoGP Malaysia October

    Afternoon all

I am hoping to get away in October for up to a week with my partner to see the MotoGP in Kuala Lumpur. We have only moved to Hong Kong 2 months ago, so haven't had much experience of Asia yet.

Can any recommend where to stay in KL/how many days would be reasonable to stay there - what is there to do? I know around the start of October most beach resorts in Malaysia close for the season, so i think its just city hotel.

I also have the option of making it a 10-day trip, so if that were an option, can anyone suggest somewhere to stay for maybe 4/5 nights beforehand - Thailand etc?

    Thanks

Try Corus Hotel in KL. Pretty decent and close to the Petronas tower. If you want to make multiple trips to the Sepang race circuit, might as well look for a hotel closer. That said transportation is quiet cheap compared to HK.

Thanks - i think its fairly central isn't it.

Would you say that staying there for a week would be too long? Perhaps 4 or 5 nights would be better? Is there a lot to see nearby? With the GP being on the sunday, i'm just trying to figure out if we could do another trip for a few days before/after.

I have stayed at Traders Hotel in KL, and could not recommend it highly enough - one of the best hotels I have stayed in (value for money also). A room on the club level overlooking the Towers is recommended. The club does a good breakfast and afternoon cocktails.

KL is good, but I found it not to be my favourite city in Asia. A week there would probably drive me crazy. But not sure on what are some easy alternative places to go from KL - sorry. Depending on how adventurous you are, Melaka is a city close by, or you could even easily go down to Singapore by road or train (takes about 8hrs).

Corus hotel has good location, but room is pretty old. Traders hotel might be better idea, or if you have a company of 4-6 pax, you might want to consider renting a 2-3br service apartment at Ascott, which located directly opposite Twin Towers.

There are plenty of things to do in Malaysia.
    1) KL - You can spend 3d2n there, exploring various places such as Twin Towers, Batu Caves, shopping at Bukit Bintang, try out good local hawker foods at Jalan Alor or Petaling street etc. But do keep in mind that the race will be held at Sepang track, which is 45mins by taxi from city center, and very close to the international airport. Taxi fare there for local cost abt MYR60-80 one way, not sure how much they will charge tourist.
    2) You can spend 1 day in Melaka, which is about 1-1.5 hr bus ride from KL. You can do a slow walking day tour in Melaka, exploring various historical sites from Dutch & British occupation.
    3) You can explore Genting Highland, which is about 2hrs drive from KL. This is the one of the few places you can enjoy climate of below 20C in Malaysia, and not forgeting only casino in Malaysia. Personally, I didnt like that place as it is very crowded and rowdy.
    4) Cameron Highlands - Another below 20C climate highland, but it is more relax and chill. You can either play a round of golf here or experience strawberry picking or tea making.
    5) Tamn Negara - If you like nature, do spend a few nights in the Reserve park. You can do trekking and enjoy the nature here.
    6) Penang - Populated island which is about 4 hours drive north of KL. It has bets foods in Malaysia, and decent beaches as well (Batu Ferringhi).

Let me know if you need more info.

Thank you all for your advice. I think since we haven't got loads of money saved up, we can get some good deals for less than $3000 for the four nights in central KL which is really reasonable.

I would like to go somewhere on the friday about 1-2 hours away from KL, so i think Melaka or Genting/Cameron Highlands would be nice to visit.

Thanks again - looking forward to my trip!
