Taipei, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney and Seoul are all fine even if you are going by yourself. Also, you'll find that Christmas is celebrated in these places too - so a bit of festivity. For more adventure, I would also suggest Vietnam or Cambodia but only if you have some company. I've been to all these places.

Only go to Seoul if you like snow and the cold. Only go to Sydney if you like the heat and have a solid amount of cash to spend.

Not necessarily hot in australia at christmas. I have made snowmen on boxing day in both Victoria and Tassie in different years. (But yes, it is mid-summer!)

Seriously, what's wrong with remaining in HK? When I first came to HK, I was always wanting to get away during Christmas but I found that HK is so nice during Christmas - festive, weather not too cold and lots to do. Definitely not boring even without company.

Tripadvisor is the best place to find good paces to go to. Or use Zuji or Lastminute.com. Better hurry with your booking, and make sure your seat is booked on the plane!!!

These are good choices. When you mention Malaysia, there is east and west Malaysia. For east Malaysia, people go to Kota Kinabalu for the beach or mountain climb. West Malaysia has beach and city life too.

Taiwan and Tokyo is also good for short haul.
