Thats exactly what I did. China Eastern to Japan. Only 1 hour stopover in Shanghai. The problem for me was that the first plane from HK-Shanghai was running late and I had to rush like mad to get the second plane. Only to find myself stuck in an immigration queue when I didnt even want to enter the country.
Well once again, it pays to look carefully because on the long haul route to Detroit, Delta uses the Boeing 777-200LR which can't be older than 2006. It has some inseat power as well as personal entertainment systems, fairly wide economy seat at 18"' though the pitch is average at 31-32".
Of course being an American airline, one has to expect the service to be abysmal but when you pay peanuts, it doesn't do to expect luxury...
Can anyone clarify this? I have flown China Eastern to YVR twice changing in PVG and I have transferred through like a back door that leads through like staff locker rooms and then to an immigration counter that passes you back into the waiting area. Has this policy changed between last August and this Xmas?I flew China Eastern over XMAS. The problem I have with them is not the airline itself, but Shanghai airport (which you will probably have to transit through before going to your final destination). It is horrible and has no transfer facilities. Even though you just want to get off one plane and onto another, you have to go all the way through immigration (massive long wait), all the way out of the airport, then back all the way in again. If you dont have a Chinese visa (why would you because you are only in transit), they give you this stupid sticker for you to wear so the immigration knows you are in transit and lets you through without a visa. But you still have to line up for hours and get your passport stamped. Also make sure you get the stupid sticker in HK before you board the first plane.
