help! passport through the washing machine

so i come back from work today and find i have put my passport through the washing machine - its totally 100% destroyed. i only realized it went through because of the plastic chip insert and the fact my black tee shirt had paper crap on it.

So i was flying to Thailand on the 2nd ... how screwed am i?

i will be knocking on the australian embassy's door 9am tomorrow morning sharp. i want to know if anyone else has had something like this happen - also how much of a hassle is it to get another work visa?

Emergency passports (with 4 pages) can be arranged within 2 days. Not sure you will make 2nd.

Once you have a (non-emergency) passport then getting a duplicate visa stamp in it is no great hassle (costs HK$160 if I recall correctly).

i had the same happened to me a few years back in vancouver. download all the forms you need. take your photos. get them signed. do you have any other proof of australian citizenship? i recalled the passport office opens at 8.30. passport out the same day. valid for 1 year.

as for returning to hong kong, no idea. i was working in the us and travelling to canada at that time. i first returned to the us as a tourist (no one needs to know). i applied for my permanent passport first then got my visa sticker put back in.

There is a danger they may prosecute you on anti-laundering charges.
