Recommended Hostels near HKUST/Clearwater Bay?

I am an American student studying at HKUST for this spring semester.

I have a friend coming to visit me while I am in Hong Kong in about a month. We are looking to book an affordable, reliable hostel room for 10 days. However, I have never stayed at a hostel before and am unfamiliar with the region. Has anyone stayed or heard good things about specific Hong Kong hostels?

It is okay if the hostel is further away from the HKUST campus/Clearwater Bay so long as it is near an MTR station.

Please let me know if this is the wrong forum to post in and direct me to the correct one if possible.

I've used hostelworld/booker for years, and their ratings are usually pretty spot on. I don't personally know much about the HK hostels, but figured i'd give you a few websites.

most hostels are in tst. at least they used to be.... there is also one in pok fu lam. there are none in clearwater bay or sai kung. sorry

There is... it is at Chek Keng, near Wong Shek pier. But your friend might prefer to stay in town to see all the sights.

hmmm... i LIVE 2 minutes from wong shek pier and i've never noticed it... is it up the hill towards hoi ha?

Really? Tsk tsk! It's right above the pier at Chek Keng. I've stayed there many times.

Avoid the Chunking Mansion hostel like the plague! I had friends who stayed there and told me horror stories about it!

Right above the pier... steps go up to it. It's a good place to stay to get an early start for hiking.
