    Sightseeing suggestions for older travellers

My mother is coming to visit me at Easter, I am very excited as she has not been to HK since the late 70's and I think she will enjoy her trip. However, my mother is older (in her late sixties) and I am looking for things she might enjoy seeing on her own while I'm at work. My mother enjoys cultural things, old buildings and history. My mother does not like shopping. I worry that if I sent her off somewhere on her own she might walk up too many stairs and hurt herself. She's not frail but she did have a heart attack a few years ago and I worry. For people that have had their parents or grandparents visit them do you have any places that I can suggest for her to visit on the 2 days I have to work while she's here?
    Thanks in advance!

Where will she be staying as that might give a clue as to what to recommend.

Hong Kong has all sorts of tricky stairs and walking risks but the biggest one is getting lost if a person is lousy at maps and directions. Transport can be tricky too for new folks or tourists - it was for me.

Perhaps you would feel more at ease if she joined a tour. And if you're willing to fork over the dosh, there are personal guided tours of Hong Kong and Macau in a limo.

She is only in her sixties, you make her sound like a doddery old wreck. Most blokes here in their sixties are partying with the young girls in Wan Chai .

My father in law is 73 smokes like chimney and loves to climb mountains. He just got over a cancer scare also. Though our recent trip last week he was slowing down!

when my mum came the first time, i was working in an office and she had to make her own way some of the time.

    things i suggested:
    1) get on a tram on hk island. she got on one and went all the way to the end of the line and then back again. it took a couple of hours and gave her a good overview of the north of hk island.
    2) bus to stanley market.
    3) tram to the peak
    4) cable care to big buddha (it wasn't open at the time but would be something your mum could do)
    5) ferry to mui wo and then bus to tai o and back again. in tai o, she can get on a boat to see the pink dophins.
    6) trip to sai kung. walk through the old town. have lunch along the waterfront.
    7) star ferry from central to tst. tst-wanchai....
    8) wanchai street market
    9) temple street night market
    10) mongkok ladies market
    11) flower & bird market
    12) wong tai sin temple

She's not doddery but she certainly won't be doing any shots nor clubbing.
I believe my mother would drop dead at the sight of Lockhart rd. alone.

She'll be staying with me in Sai Ying Pun. She'll have to be somewhat use to tricky stairs. I live in a walk up!!
