Auto-gate or E-Channel at Beijing Airport?

    Hi,

I'll be taking a direct flight to Beijing soon, and I'll be testing my HRP for the first time.

Are there Auto-gates (unmanned immigration gates) or E-channels at PEK Airport T2 for HRP holders?

I can't read Chinese or speak Mandarin , and I would prefer to automated systems, than looking at the immigration officer face-to-face.

Are there definitely echannels in Beijing / SHanghai airports for international flights into the country for Home Return Permit holders? If so, how does it work? Is it like the HKID e-channels with (1) inserting the card (or swiping) and (2) finger print scan?

    Thanks

    As of March 2011...

The answer is no. No special lanes. No auto-gate...at least in T2.

I had to queue up with the "Chinese Mainland" Nationals.

Foreign Passport holders had an easier time.

The good thing is that the HRP works! Just a mandatory photo shot, and no stamping...and no questions.

You had to queue up with Chinese Mainland Nationals because you are a Chinese National. Just because you live in a different part of China doesn't make you better than them.

    C'est la vie.
On the other hand, that would have entitled you for a free ride from Libya back to China.
And what's more, you can go to tea bed without fuss

Queue is long, and noisy, but what's important, is that I got in...and got out, no fuzz, no questions, and best of all....no need to pay.

In my experience the folks at Beijing Airport are very friendly. Pretty good English as well in the shops and immigration and security. They really took care of me when I had a super tight connection last year. At most airports they would not have cared. Maybe it's a one off but was quite impressed.

Wow, you won't give up! Yes, they also have HRP channels in Canada, US and Australia for HK'ers when they travel. Also HK'ers have a special lane in most airports around the world. Not sure why a country would want your special lane just for HK'ers.

On the mainland there are generally mainlanders, foreigners and the special lane for crew, APEC holders etc. You are classed as a foreigner in their eyes.
