Have one free day in Guangzhou - 3 ladies together. One wants to shop at Shan Xi Lu (googled but can't find this place) and the other wants to go to Shamian Island. Will be staying at airport hotel, so travel by metro for full day in town and going back to hotel at night. Anyone heard of Shan Xi Lu shopping area? If not, any recommendations for shopping area. Is travelling by metro at night safe in Guangzhou? Any suggestions of places to visit or eat are most appreciated.

Shopping in GZ?? HK is alot better. You will be very disappointed.
Travel on metro is fine and very good and clean in GZ.
I'm not a fan of the place and cant see why you would want to go there if you had too. I would find a nice hotel with a pool and spend the day sunning yourself and drinking dacaries.

Agree with you on the shopping (HK is better). Just one free day as we wait to meet a larger group of people. Just some activities to kill time and one of the ladies voted for shopping. I guess it should be ok.
