BA have taken to strictly enforcing their bag policy and no longer exempt any sporting equipment. It was $500 to transport a small golf bag with a few clubs. Try QF/CX instead.

Cathay's rule's changed on 1 December 2010 as well. No freebies for golf bags with them now.
