    1.) Taxi
2.) Taxi (I booked a taxi for the whole day during Olympic time, took in the Square, Forbidden City, Hutongs, Jade Market, The Great Wall at Badaling, all for about 600RMB split 4 ways, apparently I should have paid less!!!

    1. Better and cheaper than what? Where are you going?
    2. Of course there are. There are also travel books.

Your interweb should have a google function. You can also try wikitravel.

There are buses at the airport that go to various locations throughout the city. Just mention the hotel and location to the guy at the ticket counter to know which bus to take.

Outside of Tianamen, Forbidden City and Hutongs there is not much to Beijing to see. All these are within walking distance from each other.

For nightlife, Shopping Wangfujing and drinking, Sanlitun.

Oh, forgot about the summer palace.

I didn't include the wall as I didn't think it classed as a local tour.

    Jade & Silk Markets
    Summer Palace
    Olympic Park
    Paleontology Museum
    Panda exhibit

Come on Virago, I was there for 6 weeks and there was heaps to do and see - it's an incredible, massive and extremely interesting city. You could spend three days in the Hutongs alone. A few times I sat down in the Hutongs, the old ones, not the tourist ones, with a cold beer and just enjoyed soaking up local life happening around me.

Olympic Park could absorb most of a day..

    Anyway!
