    Redeeming Asia Miles

I read a letter in the South China Boring Post this morning about someone who has had a lot of trouble getting a flight using the Asia Miles they have saved up.
We have been trying to book flights using all of ours as well and have never been successful, i just thoought it was our times. Has anyone else had problems?
We want to use ours quickly as they are devalueing them soon so that they have about 20% less value.

Lammarite - Have not been able to get prime destinations like US / UK, given that I've pretty much slowed down my travel and don't have a premier status anymore.

The last time I tried -- three months in advance to LAX and it was a no-go.

Cant be bothered with Asia Miles anymore... do need to sort out the credit card points and see if I can get something else with those points.

I'm thinking the same- we've been trying to get a Dubai flight or even using them as an upgrade 4 months in advance but it's no go.
Unfortunately you need to use a million Asia Miles to redeem a 7" pizza from Pizza Hut or somesuch madness.

    In general:
    * Redeeming economy short-haul or regional - the chance should be pretty good.
    * Redeeming economy long-haul - need to be flexible on dates.
    * Redeeming business/first or upgrade on short-haul/regional - it depends, but status will help.
    * Redeeming business/first or upgrade on long-haul - better be Marco Polo Gold or Diamond. Even that will only help for the member, not necessarily for traveling companions.

There's a page on the Asiamiles web site where you can get an idea about the likelihood of seats being available on various routes over the next 3 months.

The current situation is that flights to Australia/NZ, North America, Europe, Middle East/India and Cambodia are medium/low availability, everything else (basically all other Asian destinations) are available. These seems to have been the case when I've looked in the past too.

So my advice in redeeming Asiamiles is that they're really only useful for regional flights unless you can book a long time ahead or be really flexible with dates.

So if I want to go to Manila 30 times or Peru in the middle of winter I stand a chance.
Thanks Cathay, for nothing. Now, where's the number for Oasis?
