Travelling to Germany - Best way to convert HKD to Euros?

We are soon travelling to Germany, so I said to my missus that we should get some money exchanged and her response was, we can covert about 1k HKD at the airport and for remaining needs we can always withdraw in Germany. Now, I know for a fact that airport changer is to be used only when one is really really really really and really very desperate, else avoid. Some of you who travel frequently, can you advise from where I should get HKD changed here in HK? Would that be a better option then doing EPS/atm withdrawls in Germany? I won't mind carrying a bit of cash for small expenses (for bigger spends I have visa).
    Many thanks.

Your local bank will carry some Euros to exchange.

Example: You have a local account at HSBC.

Walk into a larger HSBC branch and ask to exchange HKD1000 into Euros cash from your HKD savings account.

Walk out of bank with Euros cash in pocket and smile on face.

Get what you need before you go, from your local HSBC branch

Yep EMX has it sussed out.

We always work out a rough approximation of how much we we'll need, say about €1000.00 issued from any HSBC branch a few days before we fly out, most branches have as many €50 notes as you can carry, €100 notes not always reliable. We prefer to take 70% out in €100 notes 30% in 50's. We'll usually work to that budget and use credit card for things like car hire or hotel costs.

Do it before you go and use the card when needed. No need for money changers...

use $ from your account to convert it into Euro, then withdraw Euro and pay the forex withdrawal fee
