Shenzhen visa for UK passport holder

Does anyone know if they actually put the visa in the passport at the Shenzhen border? I have no more free pages and was hoping it might be a separate paper visa not stuck in...

Not for UK passport holders. If you run out of pages, you have to get a new passport (and that takes 4-6 weeks),
