Travel Visa to China (US Passport holder)...costs and processing time?

    Hi All,

Do you know where a US Passport holder can go get a visa to China. What are the costs and what is the quickest way to get it without having to wait in crazy long lines? Or are there no way to do it quicker?

The US passport has never been to China before and holders a HKID for living in HK, is it still possible to get mutilple entry?

    Thanks.

US passport holders pay US$140 (HK$ equivalent) for a Chinese visa, whether it is single or multi entry. As it is your first visa,it would be wise to go through an agency to get the visa - more likley to get a multi entry rather than a single entry.

First time applicant can only get single/ double entry. If you process by yourself, cost HK$ 1100 for normal service (takes 4 days), extra HK$ 200/$300 for rush service.

Not all travel agencies do visas.

While generally true, not entirely true. An American applying in the US will routinely get a one year multi entry visa. An American applying through a specialist visa travel agency might be able to get a 6 month multi entry visa even without previous Chinese visas.

Assuming OP applying through HK and for L visa, tourism purpose. Then, he/she could only get single/double entry .

The only thing certain about Chinese visas is that nothing is certain.

If you don't want to wait, travel agency is easiest, they'll just charge a processing fee. China Travel Service is a common one people get it at.

If you are in the U.S., best to get it there. They are not so picky like the HK office. The China consulate in HK likes to reject people for any reason. They'll also ask for copy of HKIDs too, which is really irrelevant to the whole process since they have your passport.

You can read about my great experience.
