    Downtown airport check-in

If I check in for a flight at Hong Kong Station do I have to buy an Airport Express ticket? (British airways)

In-town check-in is for Airport Express users. You can use your Octopus card or buy a ticket. If the former, the full fare will be deducted at check-in rather than when you board the train

Or look at it the other way, they charge you $100 to check in your luggage, then you can get a free train ride.

Ok, plan was to check-in, offload baggage then spend day messing around in HK (leaving carry-on stuff at our K Town apartment) then get a taxi to the airport....there's 3 of us, 6 cases to check-in and then carry on stuff (it's our Big Exit!)

If you check in at Kowloon Station and take a taxi to get there, you can get half price AE tickets.

Edit: Never mind, you're in Kennedy Town...

There are 'packages' where you can buy 3 tickets for a reduced price (or something like that). Honestly I have no idea how many different "combo" deals there are--best to ask them at the ticket office or on their website.

You can always get discount AE tickets from travel agents. Makes it an incy-wincy bit cheaper..
