    HK airline question

My employer will be using HK airlines for travel to the mainland. I have heard many horror stories about this airline but also some positive reviews. So how is the airline like in terms of service and delays.

I have flown them before to Beijing. It was on time and fine. Nothing special but it all depends on weather and maintenance service.

    Here is HX : http://www.flightstats.com/go/Airlin...airlineCode=HX
    Here is KA : http://www.flightstats.com/go/Airlin...airlineCode=KA
    Here is CX : http://www.flightstats.com/go/Airlin...airlineCode=CX

Compare the stats and make up your own mind...

I've flown them several times - they are perfectly fine.

Delays on the mainland are often out of the airline's control - for example, provincial VIP is late boarding or the air force suddenly closes lots of air space.

Re safety, there was a recent story in the SCMP about this: http://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/a...-kong-airlines

Here's the deal with HK Airlines - It's a perfectly good little airline however, being a small outfit, they don't have many planes (Wikipedia says they have a fleet of 25 planes). If one plane is delayed or grounded for repairs, the impact on the rest of the flight schedule is disproportionately large vs. a major airline that can roll out spare plane from the hanger.

Thanks for the links. I was looking for some personal opinions here as well. I guess so long as there is no disruption to the flight schedule it should be ok? How an airline respond to such event is the key between a good and average airline I suppose.

I took HX to Bangkok. No problems, flight was on time. Food was good, and they had some good videos in Eco class. Would not hesitate to try again.

PS: Forgot to mention, I survived.

I've taken them before to Hanoi - it was fine. For flights to China though, all airlines are subject to delays.

Based on the reviews from the flight websites above and the responses here, it seems HX gets the job done most of the time, if not spectacularly so. OK, acceptable since Mainland flights are only a few hours long...sometimes.

As for the delays, I get it that is the norm rather than the exception for flights to China. I guess I should be asking not whether there are delays but how the airline handle the delays. Do they keep the passengers informed? I think problems occur when airlines keep passengers in the dark over the delays, as is the case with some mainland carriers (although that doesn't excuse the increasing number of air rage incidents on the mainland-that would be my bigger worry, haha). I'm also curious to know their refund policies in practice (as opposed to what they state on paper), do you find if acceptable compared to CX and KA?

Speaking of which, overall, how would you compare HX with Cathay and Dragonair?
