hello,
i am a hk resident. however im not permanent yet. i am a dependent from my wife. and i still have 5 more years before i apply for permanent..
thing is, i want to go to australia for studies.. can i apply for visa from hongkong and how long can i stay in australia, lets say i have a visa for 3 years, but when should i enter hk . i heard my hk visa would be canceled if i stay for long time outside hongkong.

You can leave HK for some reasons and still be classified as resident I think.. especially in the case of studies. I have no idea how it works in your case though.
