Cheap South Asia destination in August? Thx!

    Hi everybody!
My girlfriend arrives in August, and we would like to travel to a sunny and heavenly place around Hong Kong.

    But we have two problems:

1-we are students, so we need a cheap destination (especially cheap flights)

2-August seems to be the worst period to have a SUNNY trip around there..

Plillippines looked perfect for us, cheap flight, quiet, cheap guesthouse on the beach, beautyful beaches...but we said me that the risk to have a rainy week is very high!

We also think about going for a few days to a little Hong Kong Island, but it seems not so heavenly, and we don't want a crowed place..

So what is your opinion? Where should we get in August?

    Thanks a lot!!

I want to ask the same thing!!!

My best mate is flying over from the states next week and we really want to go on a relaxing holiday to a beach resort. We looked into a 4 night package to Langkawi, Malaysia but it ended up totalling $6700 which is way over our $5000 budget.

We have booked a 5 night trip to Phuket in Thailand and this will cost us $4800 including tax HOWEVER we are only on the waiting list for the fights and the chances don't look good.

I have done hours of research since beginning of July. The cheapest locations to go to in august is Koh Samui and Phuket (both in Thailand) and Cebu and Boracay in the Philippines. However, you need to be quick in booking your flights becoz if you wait until your gf arrives, all flights could be fully occupied by then.

August is not an ideal time to holiday in Asia because it is smack in the middle of the typhoon/monsoon season. Lots of rain and bad weather should be anticipated.

If you're not looking for a beach holiday, then a city break in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok will cost you way less than an arm and a leg.

You can also sign up for local day tours which can cost less than $200 or spend a weekend in one of the outlying islands.

    Good luck!

    Cheap flight promotion

I notice Tiger Airway offer cheap flight recently, flight from Singapore to Macau cost only S$99.00 one way, and Air Asia are on promotion as well.

Try Hua Hin, 3 hours drive from Bangkok airport. Can easily get cab service at the airport. Cheaper than Koh Samui and Phuket. Nice beach

I also recommend Hua Hin, very cheap and not much rain as it is on the East Coast. I was there for a week and hardly had a drip although some cloudy days which was nice because it wasn't as hot as in HK. A couple of evenings were almost cool.

Even you manage to find cheap air tickets, you will get burned on the fuel surcharge.

Cab to Hua Hin is 1600 THB - 2000 THB on average. About the same for return

It's almost 30 pounds / 60 USD. I think it's manageable and especially if you split it in a group (or a pair).

note that the fuel tax, surcharge tax will cost more than the ticket alone so make sure you go through the whole booking process till you get to the payment page for the actual ticket price
