    Road trips in China

Has anybody got recommendations for 1-week road trips starting off from Shenzhen?

Friends have been to Guilin & surroundings but I've been wondering if there's anything else worthwhile and not doable in a weeks time.
One idea I came across is Zhangjiajie, has anybody done that?

Do you intend to drive yourself?

I drove up to Hunan Province over CNY...the mountains there were pretty stunning...

    I want to do more.

Have you read Country Driving by Peter Hessler?

If one-week driving trip, I think you can just travel the provinces around Guangdong, such as Guangxi province, Hunan province, Fujian province, Jiangxi province. You can go to Wuyuan County and Lushan Mountains in Jiangxi province; visit Tulou clusters and Xianmen Gulangyu Island in Fujian province.

Got back from my trip. Ended up driving to Yangshuo, which was a prettily relaxing trip (except of traffic around Guangzhou). Driving time is 5-7hrs one-way and I can recommend it to anyone who's been thinking of doing such a trip.

Smooth traffic, especially after getting out of Guangdong!

I like this idea. Does 'car is readily available' imply 'rental'? If so, where did you book and what insurances were included?
