    Travel insurance recommendation

Any recommendations to buy an annual policy? Can I claim a tax deduction since I'll be travelling for work?

Your doesn't provide travel insurance for business travel?

Having said that, a lot of the major credit cards offer free travel insurance when you pay with your card. Whether the coverage is enough for you is another matter though.

Went through HSBC online and when I had to make a claim they absolutely sucked ass, trying to weasel out paying on a technicality. However, their policy was provided by AXA or AIA and their processing department was much more helpful and didn't bat an eyelid at the technicality that HSBC tried to hide behind.

So I'd recommend going to whoever provides the insurance rather than buying through a bank/third party.

I did file a HSBC travel insurance claim. Once I submitted all the required documents, I received a check in 2 weeks.

I think they all try to weasel out on technicalities if they can. The Standard Chartered travel insurance is provided by MSIG I believe and if you need to actually make a claim it is straight to MSIG, not to SCB.

ACE - The insurance guys who handle Amex claims were pretty good. Paid for an iPhone (in a back pack) that got stolen from my niece in the UK. Have spoken to Amex people and they claim their customers are pretty happy with them.

I did buy a policy from them a few months ago and did not have to use it.

I must say my experiences with HSBC were positive - though this was when they handled the policies themselves. Had all our luggage stolen in London (brick through hatchback window in car park), and they quickly paid out maximum entitled under each category with no qualms.

Had separately claimed for a costly International SOS consultation in Beijing with no issues, and a stolen iPhone elsewhere (many insurance companies make a fuss over mobile phones).

Thankfully have not made any claims in the past two/three years though, so don't know if things have changed...

It wouldn't be exclusively for China but global. Do some not cover the mainland?

I think it's the other way around. There are policies that only cover nearby countries (including China), which are cheaper than policies that cover all countries (at least this is the tiering system presented by HSBC when you look online).
