Maybe being part of oneworld helps? I flew with BA this weekend (first time I've flown with them in over a decade!) and all devices were allowed to be switched on as long as they were in flight mode. Fortunately it was a short haul European flight so 99% of people had no interest in using devices anyway. I hate to imagine how hellish a CX flight landing in HK could be with devices allowed on....candy crush madness! I always quite enjoyed the respite from the HK phone-surgically-attached syndrome on take-off/landing....looks like those days are over.

When will it come in effect? Took cx flight to Manila and they did ask to switch off electronic appliances during take off and landing over the long weekend.
