    Yes they ask especially when I buy smokes so they can let me know if I have too many or are not allowed to bring smokes into my destination country, they tried to tell me that I couldnt take any into Singapore, I told them not to worry about it, paid and left LOL

    Not just in HK or the UK, I get asked. This year, I was asked to see mine at Tokyo Haneda. I get asked in Copenhagen, Milan..security thing, is my guess.

    Security? If the Duty Free shops are doing security checks, what are those people doing swanning around Immigration, and the others rummaging through your undies and escorting passengers through the full-body scanners?

    in EU, DutryFree shops must pay to Mr taxman some sort of revenue tax for EU customers but not for non-EU customers,
