    Finding the Best Airfares

Hong Kong has no Ryanair outfit to provide super cheap flights, but you can still get some reasonable deals. I'm always looking out for the lowest airfares, but find it difficult to benchmark what a good fare for Hong Kong is.

From what I've seen, experienced and bought. (Return Inc taxes and charges)

Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok Direct.
Fantastic fare - 1000 HKD or less.
Normal cheap fare - 1000-1400 HKD

    London
Super cheap fare - Low 4000s HKD.
    Cheap fare off-season - 5000-6000 HKD.
    Cheap fare peak-season - 5500-6500 HKD.
Cheap direct flight - less than 8000 HKD.

    Tokyo
Very cheap fare - Less than 2000 HKD.
    Normal fare - 2000-3000 HKD.
    Cathay/ JAL/ ANA fare - 5000-8000 HKD.

Does anyone agree and can anyone add anything?

I usually use skyscanner. Is that the best tool out there?

Cathay having some low promo direct fares to London Gatwick at present (4500-5000).

Zuji shows some interesting offers, worth taking a look at.

Cx fanfares worth looking at, but departure windows are usually inconvenient.

There are some low cost carriers.

Air Asia - usually need to book well in advance to get the very cheap fares. Otherwise, often same price as Thai or other carriers - and you get a luggage allowance and fly into a main airport!

    In Japan there is Peach.
In Korea there is Jeju Air.
In China there is Spring Airlines.
In Thailand there is Nok Airlines.

I'm not sure if all airlines show up on skyscanner.

    Skyscanner
Has many good deals but my experience is sometimes the airline can offer slightly better deals,
both online or at a sales office.
But i guess that it varies by country

$2540 for 2 of us to Tokyo (and back!) last week with 20kg checked on the way back to allow for shopping - Hong Kong Express, and keep an eye out for their twice-weekly sales!

$2364 for 2 of us to Bangkok (and back!) in November on Hong Kong Airlines - and because they're a regional airline, not a LCC, luggage and even food is included...

What I usually do is use skyscanner or kayak to get an overview and then book on the airlines site.

Indirect, probably several airlines - but might have a long layover or on a less preferred airline - e.g. one of the Chinese Airlines or Aeroflot.

Even direct is possible if you are quick and get the special offers - but there will be time and date restrictions.
