Credit where credit is due.
Booked a hotel through Hotels.com for what I thought was 13 March. I actually booked it for 13 Feb on 13 Feb (totally my fault for not double checking the date). Hotel rate was non-refundable.
Immediately called the hotel, they could do nothing about it. I then called Hotels.com (HK number, Indian call centre) who contacted the hotel. They were able to agree I could do a free date change (but no refund), however date change price for 13 March was about 3 times more expensive and outside of my budget. Hotels.com said they would try and follow up to see what else they could do, including a refund. I was not very hopeful though (but this was my fault as the rate was clearly stated as non-refundable).
Hotels.com called me the next day to update that they are trying their best with the hotel. Got an email the day after that saying that the hotel had agreed to refund me and to contact Hotels.com to process the refund, which I did.
Today full refund back on my credit card.
Total credit due to Hotels.com to go above and way beyond.
And, no I am not some elaborate shill for Hotels.com.
