Single Entry Taiwan compatriot pass on arrival in select mainland airports for those who never held a Taiwan compatriot pass

    Anyone have experience doing this?
    en.m.wikipedia.org
Visa policy of China | Taiwan Compatriot Permit on arrival

Holders of passports issued by Taiwan can obtain a single-entry Taiwan Compatriot Permit on arrival at some airports with a Taiwan passport (with validity of more than 3 months), Taiwanese National ID card, return ticket and 2 passport-sized photos, with a fee of CNY 150. Some airports may require additional documents, such as an invitation letter. Eligible airports are: Beijing, Changchun, Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Dalian, Fuzhou, Guilin, Guiyang, Haikou, Hailar, Hangzhou, Harbin, Hefei, Hu...

I read on Wikipedia with those ROC passport and ROC ID card but no long term Taiwan compatriot pass, it’s possible to get a single entry permit at certain Airports in mainland China Shanghai being one of them.
I am curious if anyone have actual experience.
I would have relatives that currently live overseas but want to go to China but would strongly prefer to avoid having to make a multi day stop in Hong Kong or Macau to secure a Taiwan compatriot pass.
I also heard that Taiwan Compatriot pass holder since 2015 no longer need to obtain a visa each time they enter the mainland.

I am surprised not many have such experience based on my search on the Internet. I even tried the famous Taiwan forum Forumosa and did not really receive an answer from those who have actually tried it. I thought I gave Geoexpat a try as I there are many Taiwanese or those with Taiwan household registrations living in Hong Kong. I know It’s much easier for them to get Taiwan compatriot passes in Hong Kong as HK and Macau is where the long term passes are handed out by China travel service. Though based on that Wikipedia article it appears those with ROC ID cards can enter one of those mainland airports without first applying for the permanent Táiwān compatriot card in HongKong or Macau. Though Macau is the easiest choice as unlike Hong Kong, Macau does not require Taiwan area residents to obtain additional documentation to enter the SAR. Though not many people prefer to stay days over there. The single entry multi month pass is a great idea for those who visit China once in a blue moon and don’t want to spend time hotel money staying in HK or Macau until their real pass become ready. Particularly if they live outside Taiwan, Hong Kong, or Macau area. Though I just want to find out just how credible is the information online. And whether airlines in practice allow people to fly into mainland in the first place without holding a Taiwan compatriot pass. I believe a similar question can also be asked for those foreigners doing the 72-144 hour visa waived flight connection program in certain Chinese airports.

It all boils down to how well the staff has been trained.
So as to your last statement, most airlines should know about the visa waiver policy.

Sometimes, they are really good, wanted to see my visa for big China, I showed them
my HK passport and the white guy said " show me your home return permit"
    That was impressive
