    US travel insurance

Hi, I'm travelling to the US next week and am struggling to find travel insurance with more than 500,000 HKD medical cover. My old UK policy provided cover for £5 million but is only valid for UK residents. I am open to single trip or annual cover - does anyone have any suggestions or do you think 500k is enough? All advice greatly received. Thank you

HKD $500K should be enough for emergencies, as long as it provides some sort of evacuation (and this happens a fair bit - we know people who work for international air-ambulances) which gets you back to Queen Mary for free treatment.

FYI: Here's HSBC's offer (marketing, have not checked fine print)

We’ll reimburse follow up medical expenses incurred during a trip within 3 months after return to the Hong Kong SAR up to HKD1 million. We’ll also cover additional travel and accommodation costs for your children if they have to travel back to Hong Kong SAR while you stay in hospital.
    MSIG:

Covers expenses on Overseas Medical Treatment up to HK$1,000,0002,3 and Follow Up Medical Treatment in Hong Kong up to HK$50,000 for maximum 90 days (including Registered Chinese Medical Practitioners’ fee E.g. Bonesetter treatment)

Worldwide Travel Assistance Service including medical evacuation & repatriation, children escort arrangements services for unexpected return to Hong Kong etc.

You could try Amex (Chubb) or reach out to a broker like Pacific Prime or CCW.

500K is way too low for the US. I used World Nomads for Europe last year and hospitalization cover was unlimited with US$100 deductible. I'm sure they have a similar cover for the US.

Ah yes, forgot World Nomads. Have used them in the past for specific single journeys. Never had to make a claim with them though.

I used it to claim back rental car excess. Got my money back minus deductible.

Any good insurance broker in HK should have access to international travel cover up to US$ 2m including medical.

How does travel insurance work? Suppose you are hospitalised, do you pay the bill and then make a claim back in HK? Or the insurance company pays the bills?
