Flight prices for CNY- will they get cheaper?

    Hey everyone,

Just wondering, based on your experiences of getting cheap flights on CNY, when is the best time to buy? Normally I'd buy about 3 months before I fly, because I think that's when they are supposed to be cheapest, but I don't know if that needs to be sooner for CNY? I'm looking at flights for Bali and they are really expensive, like 8,000 direct flight or a slightly cheaper option that takes about 12 hours of flying with a layover (not a fan of layovers for such close by destinations). Is it worth holding out for another month or do you think they'll just go up?

    Thanks :-)

Don't count on it. Chances are very low. If you have 20000 Asia Miles, you can get free flights to Jakarta. Then use a domestic flight from there.

I usually book my CNY flights in September once I get my school calendar, and flights are already extortionate. I can't see how waiting 3 months out is going to make it cheaper - look at airfare sales and check the blackout periods - CNY would be one of them. Think about how many people are travelling at that time - it's hardly low season.
However, if you're really not cool with paying that much for the flights, think outside the box and check fares for nearby destinations, then get a domestic flight. Just make sure you leave a decent enough buffer time between flights, as you'll need to collect luggage, check in again etc.

I checked before I posted it. The week during CNY, Sat to Sat, is available.

Wish I had airmiles but I don’t even have a credit card! Looks like I should buy soon or look somewhere else entirely.

It's wet season in Bali anyway. Try the Andaman coast or the Philippines.

    econo and moberndorf like this.
