Hong Kong to Japan over land/sea

Wondering if anyone has some suggestions or ideas for how this might be possible?

A search on rio2romeo comes up with a ferry from Shanghai to Osaka (2 days), but it's quite expensive. Anyone know if it would be possible to get on this ferry for less, maybe through booking with a local agent?

Not sure if you've seen their base fares, since you mentioned rio2romeo ...

Did that ferry a long time ago the other direction, it was nice at the beginning and end but in the middle seas felt a bit rough and was sick. The cheapest room is basically just lying down on the floor in a big room with lots of other people and is only 650 rmb one way according to shri's link.

Would you consider going to Japan via a third country, say, Korea? I know there are quite a few vessels that go from Busan to Fukuoka, but the catch is you've got to get to Busan in the first place.

Interesting! You were sea sick? Were many others? Sea sick Chinese people in communal toilets sounds like a special kind of nightmare.

How were the fellow passengers? Was it very noisy? I see a picture of karaoke. :/

Considering the passport I hold I don't think I can get to Busan over land! If there were a ferry from China...

Is this a vacation? What about a cruise from HK that goes around to various seacoast Japan cities? There are a bunch online, look like fun if you like cruising:

You could bypass the other Korea if you could, say, do Hong Kong - Qingdao/Weihai - Incheon - Busan - Fukuoka. The domestic legs (HK - Qingdao/Weihai and Incheon - Busan) could be done by rail or bus and the international legs (Qingdao/Weihai to Incheon, Busan to Fukuoka) could be done by ferry.

I don't vouch for this blogger but here's some information about a recent trip from China to Korea by boat. https://www.thetripgoeson.com/china-to-korea-by-boat/

They were fine and no not noisy. I booked a six person cabin from memory and was the only person in it. In general the ferry wasn’t very full. It’s fairly basic facilities. I seem to recall they were playing old mr bean on the tv. In he inland seas in japan where it was calm they had a ping pong table and I played with a friendly Japanese passenger. At sea away from japan too rough for ping pong.

Didnt see anyone else sick but I mostly just slept in the cabin for the day at sea. Good to do once would be my review won’t rush back.

This is a very interesting idea and doesn't sound as painful as a 2-day cruise on a Chinese boat. I imagine it will be way too expensive, though, when adding up all the parts, but I'll look into it. That link looks like a good guide. Thanks!
