    Shinjuku is a much better option, as I mentioned in the first reply. Much more options for eating, shopping, entertainment and still excellent rail connections. I wouldn't bother with Roppongi.

    You should also be able to find short term rental apartments round Shinjuku area. Let me know if you need any local info, our house is ten minutes cycle ride from Shinjuku Station.

    Last week we stayed in the Ascott Marunouchi Tokyo, which was about 10 mins walk from Tokyo Station, but right above the Otemachi station, which has 4 different metro lines connecting through it.

    The Ascott Marunouchi Tokyo is more like a serviced apartment, with a proper kitchen, washing machine and so on, if you can get a decent deal, plenty of good food around it, we loved it. But as TheBrit mentions, that area may not be ideal for young ones.
