Sir, About 105,000 airline passengers are being allowed to enter Britain freely every week, without health screening, including some from countries with serious Coronavirus outbreaks such as the US, China, Spain and Italy (“Flights bring 15,000 people a day to UK without screening”, News, Apr 17). Matthew Hancock thinks this is acceptable because “the epidemiological impact of keeping travel open is very small because there’s already large transmission here”. The science matters little. The government’s position shows contempt for the British public, whom it is telling very firmly not to travel.

If I was making a booking now for HKG-UK, I would probably use Cathay Pacific. Book directly on airline website. Do not use intermediaries. Pick up ticket on current offer with unlimited flight changes available (subject to class and category of booking).
