Squeezing into China during Chinese NewYear?

Just wondering if anyone has any experience traveling into the Mainland during the New Year?

Will it be as horrendous as it seems, given the magnitude of the holiday and the population of HK and China?

Is it impossible to find flights? How early should you do the booking? Is it a lot more expensive?

no issue. have done it a couple of times and it was fun. only thing to keep in mind is that a fair number of stores... will be closed during that period...other than that prepare yourself for Firecrakers, long train queue...
If you are patient and enjoy watching (people, life..) it is a great experience.

for flights you should book now if not done already. it is of course more expensive than usual but flights to China from HK are usually cheap

Thanks Mat. It'll be my first CNY in China, and I'm gonna go nuts with the Firecrackers....especially after they banned it 10 years ago where I'm from.
