What places have you been to that just didn't meet the hype?

    Ocean Park was beyond meh.

My kids were pushed around by a rather lively 70+ crowd that arrived on stagecoaches and totally overwhelmed the park.

They were shoved aside repeatedly while in line and then had to suffer the indignity of random strangers taking unsolicited pictures of them, presumably because of their skin colour.

An entirely underwhelming and uncomfortable experience as in our culture, older people get a pass for everything, even bad behaviour.

So we just fumed silently until the kids gave up and asked to go home early.

Romania as a whole and Bucharest in particular. Even the vaunted natural beauty areas were kinda "Huh, is that it?"

That wasn't so surprising shortly after the fall of Ceaucescu, but 12 years later it had hardly changed.

    Consider yourself lucky.
I have only been to Poland and Hungary
before 1989, so to me it’s fascinating to visit places in Eastern Europe that have not changed much since.

Biggest disappointment so far has been Kaliningrad aka as Königsberg.
Although recently they have done a great job renovating old Prussian fortifications
