Unless you personally know of a good travel agent who you know from experience will go the extra mile, booking directly with the airline that's actually flying the route is your best bet at getting some protection in case flights get cancelled or disrupted. Of course not buying the cheapest fare helps too as you do away with all sorts of multiple fare restrictions if you change anything from a misspelled name to changing flight dates. It's kind of like booking hotels vs booking through an intermediary like Agoda etc. Should you require any assistance with changing booking dates or refunds, you stand a better chance getting some flexibility if you booked directly with the hotel. Learned the hard way once several years back when we booked a hotel package via a third party website that included seats to see the Edinburgh Tattoo plus 2 rooms x 3 nights at Hilton Hotel. Due to last minute sickness, some members of our group could not travel out of Birmingham. The air tickets were booked directly with the airline so they allowed a credit to travel within 1 year. But Hilton could not help refund or give credit for future stays despite giving them sufficient notice according to their cancellation policy as the package was bought through a third party website.

when you book a flight, if you dont care about the day of the week, always book on a Tuesday it's always cheaper. Also clear your cache or use a different browser!

It's a sellers market right now with demand far outstripping reliable supply. I've already decided I won't travel for the next year or so even if it opens up. I expect restrictions and pent-up demand which means prices will remain pretty high.

Unless absolutely necessary, its not worth bankrupting yourself to get on a flight.

And don't expect prices to fall back to normal for a long, long time.
There just won't be flights available.

A lot of pilots and crew will have moved on to different careers. Many of them won't be going to back to the airlines. And there are no new pilots in the pipeline because training has been suspended.

Then there is the separate issue of getting mothballed aircraft back in service.

If ya dont want to pay then dont go LOL

dont bother with agents, if its only CX flying direct, try booking CX online and if that still doesnt work then you should be calling CX directly to get fare info and bookings.

As everyone as already said similar - Covid times, less flights = EXTORTION PRICES.

Restaurants have local business/customers. While travel agencies have little to no customers. terrible comparison.

Therefore there is absolutely no need to bash an entire industry based off your own previous negative experiences, wouldn't you agree?

These guys have had it hard, and the agencies still standing are the ones that have proved they are worthy of their titles and expertise.

I really wanted to attack your comment, but thought better of it as it seems you are just misinformed and there is nothing wrong with that. I hope you will think twice next time.

Sorry, work used to make us get a quote from agents here before booking a work-related trip and they were always $3~5000k pricier. Last time we went with one in 2019 they were as useless as tits on a snake during the airport protests, $2500 more please...

Did have a great agent back home a LONG ago who really helped me out once but here? Never.

To the OP, this is pretty much the worst time to fly since 9/11. A lot of the sites now have VPN blockers, anyone know how to get around this?
