Enter China with 10 year visa in my last passport?

I have a 10 year China visa that is still valid, but the passport it was in ran out of room. I now have a new empty passport, and my old passport which is 'cancelled' but still has evidence of my visa. Anyone have any idea whether I'd be granted entry to the mainland if I showed up at the border with both my new and old passport? Basically, does the visa validity run with the individual or the passport?

visa is linked to a passport number so unless your new passport has the same number as the old one you won’t be able to use that visa

Q14. I have renewed my passport now but the Chinese visa on my old one is still valid. Can I go to China with both passports without applying for a new visa?A: You can travel to China on the expired passport containing valid Chinese visa in combination withthe new passport, providedthat the identity information (name, date of birth, gender, nationality) on both passport identical. If there is change to any of the above details, you must apply for a new visa.

ChatGPT says you are wrong on so many levles,
    1) Visa issued to a person and not passport
    2) It is highly unlikely for any country to issue same passport number when renewing a passport..

My own knowledge is many/most country allows Visa affixed in old passport as long as you carry with you while travelling, for that reason many people stitch old passport to the new one..

If the visa is valid and old visas have been deemed valid again for China, you should be good to go.

I have the same thing. Situation as you. As long as you have a new passport just show them your Chinese visa from the previous passport and you will be fine. Someone here posted that you needed the same passport number from your previous passport and that is wrong. Of course when you get a new passport they give you a new passport number. You can’t get the same one. Never can. So just make sure you bring both passports with you. You will be fine.

    10 year Visa 2 passports

Yes you can enter China with both Passports since your old Passport contains your Mainland visa. But you need to scan at the border with Wechat to fill out a health form Declaration and have that scanned to enter to get to the Immigration check-in.
