In short you can nearly go cashless in Thailand between credit card, FPS x Promptpay and Alipay BUT you do sometimes need cash.

Unfortunately ATMs charge a fee for cash withdrawals for international cards.

Personal advice from experience take a bit of THB with you and some spare HKD to exchange if you really need to. Otherwise rely on credit / debit card, FPS x Promptpay and Alipay.

Are you going to Bangkok or elsewhere?
ATMs charge 200-220 baht per transaction which is about 50hkd. Take cash out once at the airport and I don't see any issue. Credit cards are accepted everywhere. Who still exchanges money in 2024?

Market rates are very competitive on ATMs but if folks want to live like it's 1982, go for it.

If you need to exchange THB, find the SuperRich shops outside of the airport (a few levels below, near the airport train) and in town - they are everywhere and decent rates

But most places take credit card, Alipay + and PromptPay (linked to the Octopus), good rates too.

For Alipay+, you can download, purchase at a very small cost, numerous discount vouchers that can be used on payment, pretty sweet deal.
