Tips Dealing with BA, changing flight without penatly

I bought a BA round trip ticket last summer in the UK to Hong Kong. Needed to put a return date and figured I'd go back sometime after CNY. Ticket clearly said that I could change the dates online for free and would have to pay a small fee for phone changes. Flight was a code share and ended up taking a Qatar flight to HK and return is BA direct. Well it's time to change the return flight date. I login online to only find that online changes is not available and need to call/ or FB messenger. Get on FB messenger and the CS tells me that the penalty for changing the UK flight is 150GBP. Before I call back, anyone have a similar experience or have any advice to share. Thanks.

If you have the original ticket which clearly says that date changes are free then I don't see what their argument can be if you send them a copy of that.

Forgot to add that the date changes were on the BA website when I purchased the ticket. Took a photo. No mention of changes/penalty on the ticket i got via email.

This is the message I see on BA when try to change the date. Couldn't do it on Qatar site either.

It's not possible to make changes to this booking online. Please contact the airline you booked with for further assistance

Maybe the 150GBP is not a 'penalty' but a difference in the cost of the original date and the new date that you are requesting?

Just checking... does the ticket number start 125- or 157-? That determines who you need to deal with to change it. 125- is BA, 157- is QR.

Maybe. I didn't n't push the CS as I wasn't committed to the new date yet. Was trying to understand why I couldn't do it myself online.

Sorry, more info checking: the return flight as currently booked is with a BA flight code, not a QR codeshare? And that flight is still in the future?
