Manila -How far will the HKD go!?

    Hi All!

I am heading out to Manila for work and I wonder how far the HKD will go??

I have herd its cheap, but wonder will 1000HKD be good for 3 days personal spending? as in yes, I have company expenses, but they only go so far!

Any help on the price of things would be great!

As with everything, depends on your tastes! If you eat room service or the hotel buffet in the shangri la, the NO, that is not sufficient. If you go out of the hotel and eat in the numerous fast food restuarants around (Manila seems to be like the USA in this regard IMHO!) then you'll be swimming in cash. There are also some (harder to find!) nice restaurants that are not "hotel" and not "fast food" that are priced close to HK prices.

Taxis are dirt cheap - airport to Makati is around 220pesos (circa50hkd) and back often half this; hotel cars will cost 3x this price. Makati is close to the airport - further out this will be more.

Hotels are variable - I stayed in the Holiday Inn at approx 5500php per night plus taxes and Intercontinential varies 6000 - 10000 php per night plus taxes. Shangri La more like 14000 per night. I have heard the smaller nonbrand name hotels are a fraction of this.

    Hope this helps.

thanks for your prompt reply 07

the company already has me set up with accom, was more interested in general spending out at night (as that the only free time i get! ha ha)

Also, what about dry-cleaning through hotels? I need to get 4 shirts washed and ironed? any ideas on cost?

    Cheers!

I don't go out at night on biz trips - no time, too tired! - well, except for some late night shopping but I'm female so no idea about clubs or whatever. Dry cleaning is typically standard hotel prices in the hotel (ie extortionate) but I expect you could find a local place for a fraction of this if you are prepared to go looking. Why not just get them done before you leave????
