    best route for HK-Tung Chung-Airport

    Hi guys,

I've had a quick look online but can't find an answer - or at least the one I've found I don't believe!

On Friday I'm flying from HKG at 4pm or so. In the morning I'm planning to get the train from HK to Tung Chung to see the Buddha. Then go direct from there to the airport (via Tsing Yi).

Can anyone tell me what ticket/s to buy. As far as I can make out, any trip on the Airport Express is $100. Is that right? Even if I use it only from Tsing Yi, not from Hong Kong station?

I had assumed I would use my Octopus to Tung Chung and then buy a ticket to the airport from there.

    Ta!

You can get a bus from Tung Chung MTR to the airport. I think its the S3 (or that is the fastest one).

    You can use Octupus there.

Or else you can get a taxi to the airport from Tung Chung.

Ride by bus or taxi is only around 10 - 15 mins.

This is the part that confused me. If you are at the Buddha and need to get to the airport, then there is no need to go back to Tsing Yi. From the Buddha, you can either take the cable car (25 mins) or the bus (45 minutes) to Tung Chung and then take a taxi or S3 bus to airport.. Or, just take a taxi all the way to the airport (around HK$200 maybe, I'm not sure).

i was talking about using the trains - ie airport express and the nearest place to get on that is at tsing yi...

but it seems the bus is the way forward

BTW you won't be able to use in town check in (if that is what you were planning on doing) if you are not going to use airport express.

    One thing...

My family did that a few weeks ago..

One thing to know is that if you check-in in Central and leave your stuff there, then you MUST buy the 100$ one way ticket.

So they ended doing Central-Tsing Yi by Airport Express and then Tsing Yi-Tung Chung by MTR.
Then cable car to/from Buddha and bus to Airport.

S3? Last time we took the S1 from Tung Chung. Is the S3 direct to the terminal?

ah. well i'm glad i checked with everyone then. i had planned to check in, then get the tung chung line. instead then we'll get the express to tsing yi, mtr to tung chung, cable car both ways, then the bus to the airport. a bit more complicated than i originally expected!!
