Restricted economy Cathay Pacific

I have recently been looking at flights on the Cathay Pacific website and noticed a class called lowest\restricted econmy. I wonder could someone tell me what this is, does this mean that you seat with your luggage?

Restricted would usually refer to changes/cancellations - probably means you can't change the ticket once it's booked for a particular flight and/or there are large cancellation fees. Can also mean you get less or zero miles for your frequent flyer stuff, if you do that sort of thing.

Restricted economy class tickets are more expensive than economy class. I think those are the front rows in the economy class.

Restrictions include how many days the tickets will be valid for (usually 7-14 days max for restricted tickets). sometimes a transit point(s) is a must ; few flights departing at certain hours that u can't take, and of course the blackout period....etc. Most of the time u would be assigned to sit at the back of the plane where it gets the bumpiest. Same baggage allowance should apply to all pax in the same class in no regards of what tickets they r holding.

Go for restricted tickets when u only need a one way ticket - the whole set of it is a lot cheaper than a one way ticket of a normal fare.

What Ryan says is rubbish. What the others say is partially true.

The seat you sit in has very little linkage to what you pay. "Restricted" means in terms of changeability of flight date/times, only available on certain flights, and only a certain number of seats available on each flight at this fare.

On CX if it is booked in subclasses YBHKLMV then you get miles, if in other classes (S, Q, O, etc.) then you don't get miles.

Baggage allowances are determined by which class (Economy, Business, First) and what frequent flyer status you hold (Silver, Gold, Diamond).

If you don't have frequent flyer status then you can only pre-reserve specific seats if you are paying high (unrestricted) economy fares. But if you have frequent flyer status then you can book any seat that's available, regardless of whether you are on a restricted or unrestricted ticket.

I speak as a CX Diamond member with several hundred CX flights in all classes under my belt.

To put it in perspective, restricted economy is discounted economy, the most commonly used airfare type, as opposed to "normal" (misnomer), unrestricted, or full-fare economy which allows full flexibility such as rerouting/reticketing within mileage or by settling the difference, etc. In restricted economy there's a whole spectrum of possible restrictions of the kinds spelt out by other members (and things like advance purchase, limitations on changes/refunds, etc etc), the devil being in the details applicable to the particular offering. So read the terms and conditions. Restricted economy costs less than full-fare economy (but of course).

Little to do with actual seat location within the economy cabin (the person sitting next to you may have paid a lot more or less than you). And no you don't sit amidst your luggage in the hold (!! ) or the cabin.
