UK Passport - Can you still travel on a near expiry passport?

My current passport will expire in June 2010.

Can I still book and go on holiday this year or should I renew it before booking any travel plans?

Anyone done this in HK? How long did yours take via the British Embassy?

    Thanks!

Should be fine to use as long as your passport has at least 6 months left on it.

Nearly all countries require that you have 6 months validity remaining on your passport at entry, so you're fine to travel on your existing passport until the end of this year.

The British Consulate General will renew passports from 9 months prior to their expiry date (and the new expiry date will be 10 years from the old one). Current processing time according to the Consulate website is 10 working days. You can even apply by post if you wish.

Now if you renew your UK passport within 9 months of expiry they will add the remaining time onto your new passport, which is cool, but must be less than 9 months. My passport expiries in Nov 2011, and I am looking to renew it in after Oct 2010, because the newer version will be released then. It was on the news a few days ago.
