    Hong Kong to Hainan

Planning a trip in February to Hong Kong and want to get to Haikou. What is the best way of getting there? Boat/fly?? Approximatley how much am I looking to pay? I have been unable to find any flights online to pre-book, is it okay to just wait till i get there to book a flight?
    Thankyou!

HK-hainan (either Haikou or sanya) is VERY expensive, probably costing you about HK$2600 after all is said and done.

A much better option is to take the train to Guangzhou and take China Southern from there. It cost me about $700 round trip off peak season last year.

there is also a boat from GZ, but takes 24 hrs if i remember correctly.

There are also sleeper buses from Shenzhen to Haian, where you can then get a boat across to Haikou. You can also go by train. Train No. K407 leaves from Guangzhou every night at 22:26 and arrives in Haikou at 10:26 next morning (they put the train on a boat if you're wondering how you cross the Qiongzhou Strait). Cost: Y222 for hard sleeper bottom bunk, Y338 for soft sleeper bottom bunk. Add on the ticket from Shezhen (Y75). Tickets for this and other trains from Guangzhou can be booked at Shenzhen station up to 6 days in advance.
The return journey leaves Haikou at 1858 and arrives in Guangzhou at 0648 next day
