Short term Holidays to China from HK

Hi everyone, sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place and I hope someone can help?

My mother is coming out to HK for 3 weeks at the end of December, whilst she is in HK she would like to try and take in a short visit to the China mainland (maybe 3 days?).

She is a British national and at 65 has decided to see a bit of the world!

Can anyone please advise if there are companies that can organise trips? Can anyone suggest where she ought to visit? (She's on a limited budget).

Also will she need a visa to visit mainland China, if so should she get one before she leaves the UK or can she get one in HK and how much are they?

    Very many thanks

Try one of the travel agent malls . If you are Kowloon side the Bank Centre in Mong Kok (Map). Or do it yourself using a site like Ctrip

I hear that getting the visa whilst in HK is cheaper than from an overseas embassy but this was only hearsay. If you have time to go to the place in Wanchai (mentioned above), you will get the cheapest and fastest option. You can also go to any travel agent with your passports and get a single/double entry very easily in 3-4 days. Shop around, prices vary.

CTS (china travel services) to tours. I haven't been on any because I prefer to travel independently but since your mother is older, a tour sounds good. I would suggest Guilin or somewhere scenic since the cities aren't exactly breathtaking (depends what you want). It's pretty far away though (a short flight or a 12 hour bus). I also enjoyed Zhuhai. You can get the ferry from Shun Tak, takes one hour - more spacious than SZ or GZ.

What sort of things does your Mum enjoy seeing/doing? Art? Walks? Museums? Just general tourism eg going somewhere in a bus, having a meal etc? Any particular interests?
