    Lao Airlines

Has anyone ever booked flights with them? The booking section of their website doesn't seem to be working, neither is their email address and there's no phone number that i can find.

What I'm trying to book is the following:

    HK - Bangkok
    Bangkok - Vientiane
    Luang Prabang - Bangkok
    Bangkok - Krabi - Bangkok
    Bangkok - HK

Proving to be a logistical nightmare working out what is the cheapest way to do it, and which airlines fly where!

According to their website their General Sales Agent in Hong Kong is:

    Tourex Asia Travel Service Limited
Room 206, 2nd Floor , The Centre Mark.
    287-299,Queen's Road Central, Hongkong
    Tel : 852-25410133
    Fax : 852-25414218
    E-mail : [email protected]

I tried the number a second ago but there was no answer. Maybe they don't answer at lunch. Maybe you could give it another try after 1400 hrs.

Oops, as it turns out they have ceased operations in HKG and now operate from Malaysia:

You may contact Mr. Lawrence Chiew or Ms. Pang from their Malaysia office at [email protected] or by phone at +60 3 7803 8110.

If you have time you can just to all this by train / bus (apart from the HK / BKK)

As mat said going by train is possible, especially from bkk to Vientiane. That's what I did when I travelled around Laos. It's a 12 hour overnight trip with a short bus ride at the other end. If you want more information just let me know!

That sounds like a plan! Now why doesn't my Lonely Planet suggest that...

My SE Asia on a shoestring suggests it (probably because its a cheaper option than flying), and its actually quite a nice route, there are several different classes of travel so you can pick one to suit your budget.

    Check out...
How to travel by train, bus & boat to & within Laos | Bangkok-Vientiane by train

It tells you about the route from Bangkok to Vientiane (via Nong Khai), and then the possible options between Vientiane and Luang Prabang (mostly bus or ferry).

When we left Laos, we flew out of Luang Prabang, which is frequented by quite a lot of low cost airlines (I think) I know for definite that Bangkok Airways fly back down to Bangkok or Vietnam Airways fly out to Hanoi.

When I just went on the Lao Airlines website, I could book online. As I remember I think there was a "fake" version of the website, what was the address that you had for the website?

it was Lao Airlines::: Homepage . Reservations . Flight Information . Destinations . It was the website they give in the LP guide, only the search function doesn't seem to work.

Train from BKK to Vientiane sounds like a good plan, then fly back from Luang Prabang, will help to keep the costs down. Was planning to take the bus within Laos.

I think the website is just temperamental, or it may be that it won't search when there isn't a flight available on that day.

I managed to search the website for flights, see link below, and followed the process through almost to putting my credit card number in.

    laoairlines.com is the correct site.

laos-airlines.com is the fake one - actually I believe a French travel agent.

You could catch the train between Bangkok and Nong Khai - i think the railway has been extended now. See Thai railways

The road from Vientiane to Luang Prabang via Vang Vieng is spectacular, but twisty in places.
