    Huanggang border- shenzhen..where is it

    Hi All

we live in tung chung and there is a cross border bus which leave from TC and goes to Huanggang in Shenzhen.
I understand this is different from Lo Wu crossing. I tried but cant find how far is it from Lo Wu?
this will be more convenient than taking the Train as its a direct bus but we are going for shopping mainly would want to go to Lo Wu and Dongmen.

Can anyone pls let me know how much time and taxi fare would it take to go from Huanggang to Lowu or Dongmen in Shenzhen

    Thanks!

HK border crossing is called Lok Ma Chau.
From Huangguan to lo wu or even to dongmen can take up to or even more than 1/2 hr due to the constant traffic jams and even worse during peak periods. taxi should cost less than 50 rmb if smooth sailing but if your stuck there in traffic, it can get more.

THere is also the metro .. but you have to get across to the "other" Lok Ma Chau crossing (the one where the trains go across) in order to connect to it. And while it's only about 300m away ... I don't think it's possible to get there by foot. MOST frustrating!

PLUS side - it's much less crowded and a nicer crossing that Lu Wo.

Cost us about RMB35 to get from Huangguan to Lu Wo in a taxi and took about 20 mins.

To get to the metro is very hard and could be quite dangerous if by foot depending on the time of day. wouldnt recommend it to anyone.

if i was living in Tung Chung, i would just stick with the MTR and go all the way to Lo Wu.

The other Lok Ma Chau is called Fu Tian Kou An or Futian Port and is very fast to cross. You can take the train to Futian Port and then take the subway or taxi to Dongmen.

Which would be totally bonkers if you were shopping at Luohu / Dongmen! Just go through Lowu!

Even living in tung chung which is theoretically close to Huanggang- if you are shopping in Dungmun /Lowwu just get the MTR/KCR to LoWu crossing and then the shenzen MTR to Logaai inm heart of dungmun a few stops down

if you cross at Huanggang you then got a hassle of taxi(may be big queues)then traffic jam to DongMun etc cost about 30 to 50 RMB

one other alternative from tung chung is get the A43 bus from chek lap kok airport to sheungshui KCR station then the KCR one station along to the Lowu terminus (the A43 is sometimes packed by the way)

Another possibility from Tung Chung would be MTR to Tsing Yi, Bus No. 279x to Sheung Shui and then the one stop to Lowu. More civilised than taking the train all the way as you actually can get a seat and about as fast.

I echo the taxi issue as my last trip to Shenzhen we took the bus from Wan Chai there. Bus was fast but then what a wait for a taxi and these guys are right about the taxi prices and huge lines for taxis.

Walking to the metro is not an option there.

I am not sure if anyone should take a bus there if they don't have HKID as I am not sure you'd get out of HK when they stop to do that as your bus might leave before you can find it and get back on. I was with a local friend so had no issue and have HKID.

The bus stops and you exit HK and then it moves ahead and you got to find the same bus and I must admit it was a bit of a shocker to look down the row of buses as they looked pretty much similar. Of course they tell you when you get off where to find it but for me being an expat it was a first.

I must be lucky because I normally have a que of 4 to 5 people in front of me - normally I am there anytime between 8am to 1030am Mon. - Sat. I find Huanggang less crowded than the 20+ people deep in Luo Hu taxi que.

This would be nuts to even try.

The bus ticket has three sections. #1 gets torn when you board the bus at the starting point. #2 gets torn off when you board the bus after going through HK customs as you board to go to Shenzhen customs. #3 your receipt.

There are signs in both English and Chinese. Just wait for the next one as stated in the announcement in English, Cantonese, Mandarin at least two time prior to leaving the bus to go through customs; also there are signs stating this in English & Chinese through out the bus. The bus leaves every 10 min to 45 minutes depending on departure destination and time of day - Lok Ma Chau/Huangang is open 24 hrs a day.

Typically if you're coming from Wan Chai, Austin Rd TST, Tseun Wan, Mong Kok, etc. these buses depart from the last 5 lanes at the end of the platform if coming from Hong Kong. If coming Shenzhen - currently the platform is under construction but there are signs in both English and Chinese. After leaving Shenzhen customs turn left and tickets can be bought to your destination in the HKSAR in either HKD, RMB or using Octopus card.

If you are with an organized tour the they will wait for you or if issues at immigration the guides accompanying the bus are their to aid you.

Crossing the boarder a few times a week this way I find is less hassle than going through Luo Hu (LoWu). If I need to get to Luo Hu the taxi to Shangri La Hotel (right across from it) is approx. RMB30 in minimal traffic and can be as high as RMB60 during extreme traffic times.
