Has anyone been to Dongguan? Is it worth going to? Does additional transportation, eg by bus or taxi, require to get to the city center after getting off the train? If so, how far?
Thanks in advance for your info.

There's an express train that goes directly to Changping Town in Dongguan from Hong Hom station in Kowloon, by far the best way to go. You take care of all your passport/immigration stuff before getting on and after getting off the train, at the stations, and there's no need to get out at the border for immigration like you do when you ride the busses.
It's $145 HKD and takes around an hour. I think they have a train scheduled around once every hour or so.
From the Changping Town station, you could hop a ten minute cab ride to pretty much any of the hotels or whatever there.
That's nice to know. So it is pretty much like the Express Train from HK to GZ. Are there anything worth seeing or doing in Dongguan? DG will be one of the cities that we plan to visit in China on our return trip to HK.
Nothing really much to do in DG, mostly factories up there unless your into the massage, KTV nightlife
It is actually the same train as the HK-GZ train. I think about half of the HK-GZ express trains have one stop along the way, which is the stop in DG.
As far as things to do in DG, it really depends on who's going to be joining you on your return trip to HK. What inspired you to add it to the itinerary if not something in particular?
My experience there is mostly limited to factory visits and business meetings. I've seen a few nice golf courses up there that I might check out if I end up back up there, but besides that there doesn't seem to be much else for the recreational tourist to see.
DG's also notorious for certain other recreational activities, but I'm afraid I can't help you there. Not while "they"re listening.![]()
I think Dongguan is famous for having a lot of big bars, so if you want to experience the bars and clubs, which is Chienese style but not LKF style, you can give it a shot. If not for night life, then all you can get are factories.....
