    Talking Singapore

    Hey everyone,
Planning on visiting Singapore in the first few days of July and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of places to check out and such. I find a lot of Singaporeans on here so figured I'd ask. It'll be my first time going so pretty excited.

Would love to check out some sight-seeing stuff while also taking in the fine dining and nightlife (coupled friends recommended Zouk and Velvet).

Any suggestions would be truly appreciated.

    Best,
    Arjit

    Check out :

    Little India,
    Arab Street Area,
    Singapore Zoo & Night safari
    Sentosa Island
    Chinatown

For dining check out the numerous food courts and hawker centres which serve great food and are an experience too. If you want something a bit more upmarket try Bar street area in Chinatown, China Square or Boat Quay. There is also a bar/restaurant area in an old nunnery called Cjimes which is nice.

For nightlife I reckon Boat Quay and surrounding area is best but check out Clark Quay and Bar Street too.

    Have fun!

I went to Universal Studios Singapore last week. Its brand new, in soft opening now. It wasnt that busy on the weekday I went, but you have to order the tickets online and print out. I dont think they sell at the gates yet.

I just came back from my second trip there in the span of a few months. The food is top-notch. The "touristy" hawker centres are Maxwell in Chinatown and Newton, and they are quite good. I have found the less touristed hawker centres to also be fantastic and worth sampling.

The sights I enjoyed most were Sentosa Island and the stuff around the ethnic areas. Fort Siloso on Sentosa gives a sobering account of Singapore's experience during WWII and is a nice break from the hustle and bustle downtown. The ethnic areas are also interesting and full of history. I did not make it to the night safari either time but found the bird park to be worth the price of admission.

I think there's a special ticket for 1 admission each to the Zoo, Night Safari and Bird Park for about S$45, valid for 1mth. That's a pretty good deal if you're planning to visit all 3 places.

By the time u're here, the Sands Casino will also be opened. So u may want to check out both Casinos since u'll get in for free (as compared to Singaporeans) and their surrounding eateries. I think the Universal tix is about $60-80/pax depending on weekdays or weekends.

I think Clark Quay will be more interesting as Boat Quay is kinda sad and old looking nowadays. Take a bum boat ride down the Singapore River or go on the Duck Tour or hop on the Hippo Bus. Both can be found at Suntec City.

There's a Glutton Square next to the Esplanade with famous hawker stalls that you can check out too. Of cos the world famous Orchard Rd for the shopping (4 new malls opened in the last 6 mths) and Sim Lim Square for the electronics.

If you want a bit more local flavours.. go to a housing estate like Toa Payoh or Ang Mo Kio or Tampines. Easily accessible as the MRT stops right in the heart of these places.

Check out the National Museum if u want a look into the Singapore history, or to the Asian Civilisation Museum if you want history relating to the local culture.

Just shop and eat your way through Singapore. =)
