HK to China Flights - Am I getting ripped off?

    Hey there,

I have been looking into prices (online and with agents) for one way tickets: HK to Shanghai then Beijing to HK in April. The best that I can do is around $3,500 + tax. I know return to Beijing is around $2,100 + tax.

Is it the typical case of charging more for taking one-way flight?

Also is there any other cheaper options i.e go to Guangzhou by train then take flights?

    Appreciate any advice!

    Thanks,
    PT

They do sound about right- but get a return and just ditch the other half.
Flying from Shenzen or Macau is a lot cheaper. Go to CTS and ask there about both options- they're very helpful.

Sorry just to clarify I need two one way tickets... to shaghai first then from beijing on the way back. I am doing a tour in between.

Thanks for the idea on Macau I will chase that up.

Extremely unlikely (China Airlines being the Taiwanese carrier); Air China is a possibility (I previously got HK-Beijing roundtrip tickets from them for around HK$1500 including taxes), but since they don't fly HK-Shanghai that seems unlikely too...

And by the way Caligirl, you do realise that "$" in this forum means HK$?
