    Jobs in HK

    Hi all,

I will be moving to HK later this year as my partner just accepted a job there. I am 23, studying full time at the moment but by the time I move there I will have completed a BA in HR and a Masters of Business in Management. My experience is only really in retail and hospitality. I only speak english. Do you think it will be difficult to land a job? Is there anywhere you suggest I look?

I appreciate any suggestions you might have,

    Thanks!

Yes it would be difficult... because most companies want the staff speak bilingual

look for multinational companies or Friends...etc

I have many friends who can only speak English and perfectly able to find a job. On the other hand some friends who are bilingual are unemployed....

It might sound unfair but it is the truth that it will be significantly easier for you to find work if you and your partner are married - this would entitle you to a dependent's visa, which means a potential employer wouldn't have to jump through the hoops of getting you a local work permit.
The other way you could be just about guaranteed of getting work is if you are caucasian and prepared to *teach* (I use the word in the loosest possible sense) English to children there is any number of language learning centres around that will snap up any "western" face with a degree ... but pay and conditions can be pretty dire ...

    Yo Syd2HK

Dude I'm in the same boat as you, fancy paddling together? xD

I do agree with most, saying that it will be hard to find work without knowing the language, and that we need to get married with our gf's in order to entice employers to hire us.

The marriage thing is driving me crazy! My Boyfriends company would not pay for my flight because I was not his wife. It is such a joke.

I really hope I can find something. Don't want to be a full time gf.

+ I didn't rack up a $60k uni debt not to use it!
