    Advanced practice nursing/Nurse practitioner

    Hi all,

I may be moving to Hong Kong from the U.S. early next year. I will have just finished a graduate nursing program. In America, I would be working as an Advanced Practice Nurse, also referred to as a Nurse Practitioner. Does anyone know if this kind of position exists in Hong Kong, or if there are other opportunities for nurses with advanced degrees?

    Thanks!!

    Details here: General Information (English)

Obviously, even once qualified, the posts available to you are somewhat limited if you don't speak Cantonese.

being an APN, advanced practise nurse required a master degree or a nursing specialty (DM, stoma nurse etc.) post are limited. but im not sure if US APN is equivalent to what we have here, anyway have a look at the site.

Yes, in the US and Advanced practice nurse has a masters degree; is is a higher level of training & education than a registered nurse.
I do not yet speak Cantonese but am actively working on it. I am also looking into Matilda hospital, which hires English speaking employees and caters to expats. Thanks.

Hi, I realise this is quite an old thread, but i have a related nursing question. My Canadian colleague is now considering a relocation offer to HK. His wife is a nurse in Edmonton(Alberta). They'd like to know what opportunities there would be for her here, private/public hospitals included. I'm told she's an RPN (i think its similar to RN) in pathology with 5-6 years of work experience. Also, she is a CBC - conversant in cantonese, but reading/writing may be limited(how important is this?).

MaggieB/Karenli/PDLM, appreciate if you could shed some light on her job prospects, i.e. qualifications, certifications needed, expected salary, etc., as his wife would like to continue her career(in pathology preferrably) , if she were to move here with her husband...any advice would be greatly appreciated.
