    Sponsorship - Expat benefits

    Hi all,

    If someone came to HK on their own accord (on the working holiday visa) and then found a job that was prepared to sponsor you, what can negotiate with the employer?

    Are you able to ask them to pay for accommodation expenses etc? I know that if you had to relocate over here, then all of this is paid for however I am unsure what you can ask once you have already arrived. Or is it a case where they may pay for expenses etc outside of the time you proposed on being here in HK?

    I understand that exactly what you negotiate for is a case by case scenario, however just wanted to know if anyone else has been through this and what they were able to negotiate.

    Thanks!

    I would imagine that you won't get accommodation expenses or other 'ex-pat' benefits if you are already in HK. Effectively, all the frilly benefits a lot of ex-pats get are brides to get them to leave their home countries in the first place, if you've already left then there is no need. Can't hurt to ask for it though

    So do most expats find work BEFORE they reach the shores of HK therefore all the negotiations are done beforehand?

    Does anyone know any case of someone coming over here, without a job in hand, and then get sponsored with similar expat benefits granted?

    just ask for as much money as u can. it can all be priced in.
    why complicate matters. use other people's pay+housing as a yardstick for negotiation.

    cheers.. I've just found that the variation in pay is huge in HK, as is the rent too - so hard to say.

    If someone came to HK on their own accord (on the working holiday visa) and then found a job that was prepared to sponsor you, what can negotiate with the employer?

    ->Anything.

    Are you able to ask them to pay for accommodation expenses etc?

    ->It can be.

    I know that if you had to relocate over here, then all of this is paid for

    ->Not necessarly

    however I am unsure what you can ask once you have already arrived.

    ->Anything

    I understand that exactly what you negotiate for is a case by case scenario,

    ->Exactly

    however just wanted to know if anyone else has been through this and what they were able to negotiate.

    ->Everybody's answer will be different as it is most of the time a case by case.

    if you made it clear you're only here for vacation, then they still have to relocate you. so they should pay for relocation expenses.

    They don't have to do anything - this is a pure commercial negotiation - everyone is different. Personally I would far rather have, say, a few thousand a month extra on my salary and pay for my own relocation...
